Commercial Maintenance
Maintenance
We understand the impact that electrical faults can have on your business, especially when they lead to a loss of productivity and disrupt your operations. While preventive measures are essential for maintaining smooth business operations, occasional electrical issues and breakdowns can still occur, causing significant inconvenience. This is where Swan River Electrical steps in. Our team of skilled electricians is dedicated to providing prompt and efficient maintenance services to quickly resolve any issues, ensuring your business gets back on track with minimal downtime.
RCD testing
RCD safety switches play a critical role in protecting people by immediately cutting power if any leakage to earth occurs, preventing potential harm. These devices are mandatory in all new constructions and high-risk workplaces. RCDs are essential for safeguarding not only your employees but also clients and visitors on your premises. Adhering to these regulations helps you establish a robust safety framework to minimise the risk of injury and ensure a safe working environment.
Under Regulation 3.60 and 4.37 of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards of Western Australia, employers and business owners are obligated to ensure that all Residual Current Devices (RCDs) are maintained in safe working order and tested regularly. The frequency of RCD testing depends on the type of workplace you operate. For all workplaces, RCDs must undergo a push-button test every 6 months, conducted either by the owner or an employee. This test ensures that the RCD will trip by simulating a power outage.
In addition to these regular push-button tests, depending on your work environment, an RCD test conducted by a licensed electrician will be required either annually or biennially. Workplaces that involve frequently moved, flexed, or weather-exposed electrical equipment require annual RCD tests to record the trip time during the simulation. These tests must be logged in your onsite RCD Test logbook as part of your Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) plan.
Swan River Electrical is here to assist with RCD testing and compliance, ensuring your workplace meets all necessary safety standards.

Appliance Test & Tagging
In Western Australia, employers are required to maintain an up-to-date register and evidence of a maintenance program for all portable electrical devices and equipment used in the workplace, including items such as computers, power cords, kettles, and similar devices. Swan River Electrical can assist by providing a comprehensive test and tag service. Our trained electricians will visit your premises to test and tag your equipment, ensuring that all items are in safe working order. Following the inspection, we will supply you with a detailed register, which will be sent directly to your email address.
For commercial equipment that is frequently moved, subject to wear and tear, or used in harsh work environments, testing should be carried out every 12 months. However, equipment that remains stationary and is not exposed to moisture or the elements only requires testing every 5 years. Specific requirements apply to construction, demolition, and industrial workplaces, where testing must be conducted every 3 or 6 months—further details are available under Industrial Electrical. Additionally, for hotels, accommodation facilities, and function halls, all electrical equipment must be tested and tagged every 2 years.
Swan River Electrical ensures that your business remains compliant with all safety regulations, providing a reliable and efficient testing and tagging service.
Emergency & Exit light testing
In accordance with Australian standards AS/NZS 2293.2.2019, all emergency and evacuation lighting systems must be regularly tested, inspected, and maintained. As part of compliance, your premises must maintain an Emergency & Exit Lighting Logbook. This logbook should document essential details such as product serial numbers, product codes, fitting identification, and the location and power source of each fitting.
Each test report will include the start and finish times of the test, a Pass/Fail outcome, and any relevant comments or observations. As a business owner, it is your responsibility to ensure that these systems are tested every 6 months. The testing procedure involves verifying that emergency lights remain illuminated on battery power for a minimum of 90 minutes.
Swan River Electrical is here to assist with ensuring your emergency and evacuation lighting is compliant and fully operational, providing thorough testing and maintenance services tailored to your needs.
